LASPNET convenes retreat and planning meeting for Staff and UNODC Implementing Partners Retreat

The Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) supported by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized a retreat and planning meeting aimed at enabling the LASPNET staff and UNODC implementing partners to review and assess the performance of the programme as well as plan for the year 2024.

The event that took place from 20th -22nd December 2023 at Imperial Botanical Hotel Entebbe served as a platform for the staff to review and evaluate the annual project performance, take stock of project implementation in order to deliberate on the milestones, challenges and lessons learnt.

The retreat brought together a diverse group of people including Implementing partners such as HiiL Uganda, Justice Defenders, Uganda Law Society, Justice Centers Uganda and wellbeing facilitators who engaged in lively discussions focusing on various aspects.

During her opening remarks, Dr. Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa -the CEO of LASPNET commended staff members for the dedication and resiliency exhibited during the course of the year 2023. She implored them to continue in the same spirit and devote their energies and expertise in order to uphold LASPNET mandate of promoting access to justice.

In addition, the CEO appreciated the implementing partners for the great work done during the quarter as well as UNODC for supporting this planning retreat which presented an opportunity to hear from the partners and plan for the upcoming activities in 2024.

This retreat was comprised of a cocktail of activities such as presentations by implementing partners about the performance of the project through sharing their achievements, challenges and lessons learnt; a Mental Wellness and Mental Health Awareness Session as well as voting the employee of the year where Ms. Doreen Kazibwe- Volunteer ADA project emerged as a winner and Mr. Badru Walusansa- The Director Programs taking a second place.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Karen Saidi -the Board Chairperson of LASPNET through her representative Ms. Assiimwe Joanita – Senior Legal Officer at Justice Defenders, appreciated the Network for the great work exhibited during 2023. She implored the staff to remain calm and more committed during this period of uncertainty and assured them full support of the board whenever a need a rise.

Generally, apart from planning and strategizing for new activities, the retreat allowed participants to build relationships and foster a sense of camaraderie among the diverse group of professionals
