Call on Government to fast track the passing of the Draft National Legal Aid Policy and Legal Aid Law
The Ugandan justice system faces a number of challenges that affect its performance and delivery of justice, especially for those who cannot afford the services of lawyer. A large percentage of Ugandans cannot afford legal services due to conditions of extreme deprivation which range from poverty, vulnerability and marginalisation.

At the close of 2015, LASPNET delivered a key document to the justice sector in Uganda, in the form of a research report on Poverty, Marginalisation and Vulnerability in the context of Access to Justice. The report which was launched on 15th December 2015 in Kampala, by Lady Justice Elizabeth Alividza who represented the Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine, highlighted the staggering differences between rural and urban dwellers in accessing justice and the court system.

In a bid to propel issues of access to justice onto the agendas for 2016 electoral candidates, LASPNET launched an “Access to Justice Manifesto” at a conference held on 22nd October 2015 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. It preceded the 6th Annual General Meeting for the Network.
