Uganda Voice Grantees oriented on the Voice: Linking and Learning Project

OXFAM and LASPNET in partnership with Strategic Link (SL) convened a two days Inception and Kick off meeting with the overall objective of orienting the new Voice grantees on the Voice policies and procedures as well as the Linking and Learning project activities. The kick-off meeting was part of the Linking and Learning activities under the new grant project ‘Voice(s) Connected & Amplified: Linking & Learning Facilitation’ project in Uganda

The meeting which took place from 4th to 5th December 2023 at Esella Country Hotel was attended by a total number of 54 participants including Grantees; VOICE/OXFAM Ugandan team; Strategic Link and LASPNET facilitators.

The new nineteen (19) grantees that were oriented included: Stay in School Initiative (SISI), Bukolooto Mosque and Community Development Association (BMCDA), Brain Injury Support Organization Uganda (BISU), VOHARO Uganda, Children’s Chance International (CCI), Teenage Mothers and Child Support Foundation (TMCSF), Mental Health Uganda (MHU), Organisation for Community Empowerment (OCE), Smile Again Family Project, Masaka Association of Persons with Disabilities HIV/AIDS (MADIPHA), The She Craft Women Group among others.

During her presentation, Ms. Fiona Ibanda, the Voice Project Manager emphasized to the grantees to be mindful of their contractual obligations under Voice and ensure that their projects are implemented according to the grant’s agreement.

Relatedly, Ms. Milly Tiwangye, the Voice Linking and Learning focal person, noted that the Monitoring and evaluation of the outputs and outcomes requires to be linked to the overall Voice monitoring and evaluation practice and would contribute to the quantitative and qualitative data gathering of stories of change, outcome harvesting, participatory videos or theatre among others.

In his presentation about linking and learning, Mr. Richard Kaye, the team leader Strategic Link stated that linking and learning is a ‘set of activities and platforms that bring grantees and rightsholders together to share and learn from each other’. He further noted that L&L is the heart and soul of Voice because it’s an integral part in everything they do as grantees, stakeholders and or Voice rightsholders.  Whereas Mr. Francis Chesliyong the grants manager Oxfam, stated that Oxfam’s relations with partners are informed by a set of clear principles that are outlined in ‘Oxfam’s partnerships principles’ and underpinned in Oxfam Novib’s program. He tasked the grantees to pay attention to statutory compliance, Voice policies and reporting

In his closing remarks of the two days event, the Director Programs, Mr. Badru Walusansa who represented the Chief Executive Officer of LASPNET commended VOICE-OXFAM for funding LASPNET and SL to implement the Voice Linking and Learning project. He stated that the main objective of this training was to orient the new voice grantees on the Voice linking and learning project activities for effective and efficient implementation as well as facilitate experience sharing and interactions. He was optimistic that the meeting achieved its objectives and hence called upon the grantees to be more proactiveness and strategic actors in confronting challenges in their own spaces

Generally, the kick off meeting gave the voice grantees the opportunity to be oriented on the long-awaited linking and learning project in addition to strengthening their understanding of the Voice operations framework and expectations
