AMURU -The locals in the northern Uganda district of Amuru district in Uganda have vowed to fight land grabbers who evict vulnerable people from their land illegally. The district chairperson Anthony Atubo, who led the residents, said land is life and nobody can live comfortably without it.“Land is a major factor in the wellbeing of people, but unscrupulous developers are forcefully grabbing land from locals using their powerful positions,” he said.

His Excellency the President of Uganda, while speaking at this year’s Labour Day celebrations in Ntungamo district expressed readiness to discuss the need for a minimum wage based on research.A minimum wage is the lowest hourly daily or monthly remuneration that employers may legally pay to workers. The minimum wage is intended to enable the work afford the basic necessities of life such as shelter, food and health care.

Dishonest in the NGO sector is a key concern of observers and some vigilant beneficiaries out there. The common accusations include diversion of funds, bias allocation of resources, employment of unqualified staff and inconsistency or overlapping in areas of operations that leads to floppy performance. This was revealed by Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, The Minister for Internal Affairs in a speech read by the chairperson of NGO board, Gabriel Kangwagye.

The Naguru Children remand home is very congested with over 160 children and there is urgent need to decongest the facility. This was revealed by the Justice, Law and Order Sector (JLOS) criminal working group during one of its routine inspection visits to the remand home. The working group had previously arranged with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to decongest the remand home but efforts were futile. The Executive Director of the Legal Aid Clinic for the Law Development Center (LAC), Mrs. Theodora B Webale called on Legal Aid Service Providers (LASPs) within the network as well as other partners to engage in the venture of decongesting the remand home.
