To strengthen coordination and networking of LASPs, harmonisation and standardisation of legal aid service provision by the different service providers, lobbying and advocacy to facilitate a favourable legal and policy environment.

LASPNET CONVENES 7TH CEOS MEETING TO PROVIDE UPDATE ON THE NATIONAL LEGAL AID BILL 2022

On an annual basis, LASPNET brings together its CEOs who are heads of the LASPs institutions to deliberate on a wide range of issues pertaining access to justice and legal aid service delivery particularly topical and or pressing matters. This year’s LASPNET 7th CEO’s Forum was funded by International Development Law Organization (IDLO) and held on 13th April 2022 at Hotel Africana under the theme “The role of LASPs in enhancing sustainable Legal Aid Service provision in Uganda.”

UGANDA VOICE GRANTEES ORIENTED ON THE VOICE: LINKING AND LEARNING PROJECT

OXFAM and LASPNET in partnership with Strategic Link (SL) from 14th to 15th February 2022 convened a two days Inception and Kick off meeting with the overall objective of orienting the new Voice Influencing grantees on the Voice Linking and Learning project activities.

LASPNET CONVENES THE 6TH PRE-AGM E-LEARNING SESSION AT THE SECRETARIAT A HEAD OF THE 12TH AGM 2021

The Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) on 21st October 2021 hosted a successful 6th Pre-AGM E-Learning Session at the Secretariat under the theme: “Growing and Sustaining a Resilient Legal Aid Sector.” The session was informed by the Board’s decision to conduct a survey and establish the impact of COVID 19 on provision of Legal Aid in Uganda.

AMUDAT COMMUNITY EMBRACES THE LEGAL AID OPEN DAY AS PART OF THE OUTREACH ACTIVITIES GEARED TOWARDS FIGHTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS IN KARAMOJA REGION

On 31st August 2021, the Legal Aid Service Providers’ Network (LASPNET) conducted yet another Legal Aid Open Day in Amudat district situated in Karamoja region. The main open day gathering was stationed at the district headquarters while other outreaches activities were spread out at various Sub counties of Roloo, Karita, A & B and Amudat.

The open day received over 200 people across the district who flocked to different set up centres at 5 sub counties to seek for free legal services on legal issues affecting their communities especially in relation to Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV)

    It was jubilation and excitement on the side of Legal Aid Service Providers (LASPs), its Development and Strategic partners as the 10th Parliament concluded business on 11th May 2021 At its last 10th Parliamentary sitting, chaired by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, at exactly 7:00pm, the Private Mover of the Legal Aid Bill, Hon. Lyandro Komakech who is also former Gulu Municipality MP received a rare opportunity to present the National Legal Aid Bill 2020  before Parliament

    On 19th April 2021, LASPNET led a delegation comprising of selected Secretariat staff and Legal Rapid Response Lawyers to engage with the office of the Principal Judge. This engagement came off as one of the strategies proposed by the LASPNET Rapid Response Lawyers and Paralegals, after continuously experiencing bottlenecks in Bail application within various Courts of Law.
